It has been a long time since I went to a Japanese restaurant. My favorite Japanese restaurant for sushi in Barcelona is with no doubt: Kynoto restaurant but japanese cuisine is not only sushi but a lot more than that. Miu restaurant, is a restaurant of Andilana group, and I am already a big fan of their hotels and restaurants in the city, they all share good value for money, quality of the food, cosy spaces and designed.
The first thing that surprised is that the restaurant is underground, I loved the decoration made by the designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, it is a combination of Japanese and Western styles. My favorite color is blue and if everything is blueish you have my attention. I liked the detail of the wine glasses with the restaurant name on it.
We ordered some starters: tuna tartar and shrimp gyoza, I liked very much the shrimp gyoza, sometimes this pastries are very hard to have the pastry correctly done, if not they get too dry or too wet, and they were just the right texture for me.
As a main dish we had chicken loin fried in bread crumbs and Tonkatse sauce and I had some sushi pieces (a white fish nigiri and a flying fish roe and also a salmon sashimi).
The chicken was a total surprise, very tender and crunchy, the bread crumbs were great, and I liked the sauce very much. The sushi was fresh and delicious, I remember I ate at the Miu long ago but I was glad to be back.
Desserts were the fun party, I am addicted to tiramisú so I had to try the green tea tiramisú and I also tasted a recommendation dessert not in the menu that was hungarian ice cream with green pesto and tomato jam. And you migth be thinking the same I did...is this sweet? So, yes it was and actually very good, the mixture of flavors was amazing. I will have it next time.
The only thing that was a con in the experience was the service, it is one of the main points when going to a restaurant, that you are treated with respect and that waiters pay attention. We were interested in knowing what were the typical dishes and the specialties of the restaurant and I would have expected the waiters to be more helpful on that.
Disclaimer: I was invited by Grupo Andilana to try Miu Restaurant. As always the opinion is my own.
