Barcelona is a metropolitan city and any trend that starts to be popular internationally ends up coming in Barcelona, yoga has become a popular practice in the city among other disciplines like pilates for example.

Before starting with yoga, you need to know what is your purpose as different kinds of yoga help you in one way or another and it will most likely help you choose as well on what you want to do. There are different kinds of Yoga to choose from:

  • Vinyasa Yoga or Yoga Flow: this kind of yoga is practiced with certain postures working with the breath along in the practice. It is a practice used along in rehab treatments such as anorexia and bulimia disorders among other.
  • Astanga Yoga: it is called the yoga of the 8 members because it has 8 precepts, prohibitions, rules, positions, breath control, sense control, concentration, meditations or deep meditation. Is the perfect yoga to take out the stress, correct any addictions, learn auto control and for exigent personalities.
  • Hatha Yoga: is a physical yoga but can benefit your mental health too, it concentrates in the body posture and it has a great preventive efficiency, therapeutic and also as rehab for any injuries. 
  • Kundalini Yoga: the positions are easy and require less physicial exigence and the practice is quiet as the movements are slow or you work in static positions, the breathing is being worked a lot along with relaxation techniques. It is perfect for quiet people or for those who need to reduce the speed of their lives.
  • Iyengar yoga: it is very much influenced by the verbal talk of the teachers and objects are used in the practice to do some postures. It requires a lot of attention and concentration. This practice is perfect for those who want to correct their posture and want to be supervized by a professional at all times.

There are also other yogas, the Bikram for example that is done in the heat and the arean yoga that is done suspended in the air, but these two types the only difference is the atmosphere but not the disciple itself.

I like Kundalini yoga so my recommendations that I have personally tried are in this type of yoga but there are plenty of places to practice and I will mention some of them as well so you can have names of studios in the city.

Adhara Yoga: an incredible place for Kundalini, they do classes weekly of 1 hour and a half and my favorite teacher is Roger. You practice a lot how to breath and static positions. It helped me a lot to relax and find peace of mind in the classes, you get so relaxed. They have the material in the classroom to be used so you only need to bring your stuff or if you are a frequent client you have a box with your name and you can keep your stuff already in the same place so you dont have to carry it around. They also have a couple of classes of Hatha Yoga during the week too.

Yoga Bindu: I attended a couple of kundalini yoga lessons in Yoga Bindu, the good thing is that you can pay as you go, you pay per class of you can buy a pack of 30 days with different amounts of classes on it. They also offer Ashtanga, Hatha, Yin Yoga, Rocket, Vinyasa and Acroyoga among others.
