Valentine's Day in Barcelona is full of romantic cakes, presents and little details for your beloved one. Although in Catalonia our true saint valentine is for saint George's day -Sant Jordi-  on 23rd April but we also celebrate St Valentine every 14th February.

Lovers express their love by sending flowers, buying cards, candy or any other present to please your other half. Shop windows are decorated with hearts and the color palate goes from pink to reddish as a general rule.

Romance in Barcelona

Surprise your lover with some ideas on what do in Barcelona for a romantic getaway or just a night out. One of the first things to look at when staying in Barcelona is of course your accommodation so it matches the romantic style of the weekend, you will find our recommendations in Barcelona's accommodation section.

Find some ideas of what you can do in the city to grow your spark:

  • Hot air balloon ride: is there something more romantic that be in a hot air balloon over the mountains surrounding Barcelona in Valentine’s Day or a special weekend. The views are exhilarating and I am sure you will find the experience fulfilling.
  • Stroll along the beach front – a saunter along Barcelona’s seafront is a great way to spend the evening before finding a cosy restaurant for dinner. The Passeig de Colom around Port Vell is particularly beautiful and also gives you the opportunity to see some of the city’s famous architecture.
  • Climb Mount Tibidabo: Tibidabo is a very special place, a mountain in the city that has a full romantic setting and is perfect to wait for the sunset. You have panoramic views of the city and you see the Mediterranean from the top of the hill.
  • Rituels d’Orient Spa Hammam: one of my favorite spots in the city for a true hammam experience. The luxurious Rituels Orient is the perfect place to spent valentine's day with your loved one. Recharge the batteries, take a bath and enjoy their steam rooms or indulge yourself with a massage or a treatment.
  • Magic Fountain show: this is a Barcelona classic, a show with music and light in Plaça Espanya, a famous landmark is a romantic must if you’re spending Valentine’s Day in Barcelona.
  • The Old Town: one of the most romantic areas in town is the old town, you have to get lost in its narrow streets to feel the magic. There are plenty of labyrinth-like streets that date as old as before christ in the Roman Barcino.

Romantic restaurants in Barcelona

It's dinner time and choosing correctly is key to succeed, what best to ask a local where to go? You are in the right place, we have done a selection of the most romantic restaurants in the city.

There are restaurants with spectacular views such as El Miramar in Montjüic or el Xalet in the same area too, Mirabé in Tibidabo or the Bravo in the famous W hotel.

If you fancy fish I would recommend you Rias de Galicia in Poble Sec or Can Majó are excellent choices.

If you are into Japanese food, my all times favorite as romantic dinner out is Kynoto, a very tiny restaurant with only 7 tables that prepares fresh and delicious sushi, you can't miss their butter fish rolls.

If you want to go for Catalan food I would recommend you la Rita, el Nou Ramonet or el senyor de Perelada.
