There are lots of things to do in summer in Barcelona, activities on the beach, in parks and most of them for free or for little fee. Barcelona is an amazing city and August is the time when locals escape from town and the city is welcoming visitors to our beloved city. Summer activities go from June to the beginning of September in most of the cases.

Summer in Barcelona is amazing full of interesting activities to discover. You have different sections sports, nights, children, beaches, vibrant bcn and places. Check out free things to do in Barcelona too that go all year around, save a bit does not hurt anyone.

Cinema a la Fresca: open air films festival in different locations

Montjuïc open air festival

This is an activity held every year, is an open air film festival at Montjuïc castle, beautiful and the perfect place for a romantic soirée or a meet up with friends. There is a selection of the best films of all times, picnics, concerts and also short films. You can check out the schedule for this year in here.

Cinema on the beach, isn't that great? The perfect place to chill out at night and for free, the activity starts at 9 pm until midnight in San Sebastià beach in Barcelona. You can check out the schedule for this year in here.

Open air film festival in Sala Montjuic: it is from 6th July untik 8th August, mondays, wednesdays and fridays from 20:30h in Castell de Montjuic gardens. The entrance costs 6 euros, and on Wednesdays it costs 10 euros and the visit of Montjuic Castle is included.

The CCCB is also hosting an open-air cinema festival called Gandules ‘15, gandules are in catalan this lay down chairs, it is perfect to watch these movies. The festival starts in August 4th to August 21st and runs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with a common theme: love. More information here.

Free music in Barcelona

Music in the park

What an amazing idea, music in different parks in Barcelona, this year 2015 is focuses on jazz. There is jazz, classic music and bands with different styles that play free concerts in different locations.

You can check out the schedule for this year in here (sadly is not in english the schedule, but it says the place, date and songs played).

The Born Centre Cultural has joined the summer activities in Barcelona and is running summer camps for children for five weeks until the end of July. They have different a theme every week but going around the same topic that is experiencing how the people of Barcelona lived 300 years ago. The entire programme here.

More jazz music in the Museu d'Història de Catalunya, they are doing this year a series of open-air concerts every Wednesday in its terrace for a night of jazz, R&B and funk. All details click here.

Hotel Terraces

Barcelona has an amazing selection of hotel terraces, some gathered in A vista d'hotel which has a full program for summer nights on activities to do in the terraces of hotels that participate in the city. In summer is a great opportunity to discover them and their delish treats of catalan or foreign cuisine, find out my favorite hotel terraces in Barcelona.

Another activity that runs every year is Inedit nights at the hotel terraces in Barcelona, a new offer for Inedit Estrella Damm beer combined with tapas created from known chefs, each hotel offers every day from 18h to 21h from 9th July to the 2nd August.
